This is an interactive 3D object editor that works within ArchiCAD to define and modify geometrical objects. Don’t forget to also download the toolbox manual which is twice the size of the software itself.

Finally Graphisoft decided to set up a central GDL exchange on their own site. Now I only hope it doesn’t stagnate due to lack of contributions – as have many others over time.
Arexline are distributing two free plugins for Archicad. rxDuplicator allows you to place copies of a selected element along any path, whether straight, curved or splined. rxAutoMaterials helps you create material parameters for GDL objects.

Another enlightened (another Swedish) furniture manufacturer. Gives you the option to download ArchiCAD objects or AutoCAD blocks.
This is the most enlightened manufacturer I’ve come across so far. The interface is clean and friendly and the site easily serves both, the retail customer as well as the architect. Click on the English flag if you don’t know Swedish.

Go to the Architects » CAD Data section of the site and, if you want to download the entire set, scroll down towards the bottom. Alternatively, you can look at each one individually.
About 23 objects as of date and the promise of more. They have an English page but with a lot less stuff on it. I don’t think a translation is needed though.

The site has been overhauled again and this time I can’t find the objects.
Applecore designs, quite immodestly I think, call this section of their site ArchiGOD which has a short list of tips that they promise to update often.

After being chased by the vendors, I finally bit the bullet and purchased Archicad 9.0 from Adroitec almost a year after seeing the demo. If it makes as much difference to my productivity as I hope it will, then it’s definitely worth the price. Graphisoft’s agents are selling it at a lower rate in India because the purchasing power of the rupee doesn’t exactly match the dollar or the euro.
Next up I have to start looking at plugins and GDL objects. Goodbye 2D CAD.
Was invited to see a demo of ArchiCAD here in Bombay. Thankfully, I was late having had to rush from the interior site at Fountain. A whole host of speakers were droning on about sundry matters before the demo actually took place.
I have to say, I was impressed by what I saw. Now if the Adroitec – who are marketing the software in India – can convince me that it’s as useful for interiors as it is for architecture, I might just be interested. As it stands, however, the price is pretty steep and they might need to do a rethink. That’s my opinion anyway…
And if anyone from Adroitec is reading this, please update your products page – you’re still listing it as ArchiCAD as version 8.1 instead of version 9.
